Clipped Words

Many of the words in the English language are shortened forms of longer words. For instance, the word "modem" is the shortened form of "modulator-demodulator." The activity Clipped Words gives students the opportunity to learn and practice these types of words.

Arm your students with dictionaries, then present one word a day as a beginning exercise to their Language Arts class, or prepare a set of cards with the word on one side and the answer on the other so that small groups or individuals can utilize them as a learning center.
