The Sound of Silence



Have you ever really listened to silence? Is it a feeling, or is it an actual sound? Think of silence. On the back of this sheet make a list or build a web of ten things that are silent, feelings that are associated with silence, or places where silence is prevalent or needed.

Your assignment this week is to write a paragraph that describes this sound. Look back at your brainstorming material for ideas to help you. Focus heavily on IDEAS and STYLE this week. You will need to use at least one simile in your description.

REMEMBER:

  1. __ 5-8 Sentences
  2. __ topic sentence, detail sentences, concluding sentence
  3. __ five areas of good writing, especially IDEAS and STYLE
  4. __ at least one simile
  5. __ signature of adult who helped you proofread your paragraph
  6. __ final copy neat, correctly headed, and done in ink
  7. __ all three papers turned in with the final stapled on top
