Popularity

For this week's English paragraph assignment the topic is popularity. It will be due on Friday.

Think about the following ideas as a brainstorming exercise to come up with ideas on what you wish to write. You may use the back of this sheet for jot notes.

-Define what popularity is.
-Do you think someone has to be good-looking in order to be popular?
-What does popularity depend on? Personality? Where you live? How wealthy your family is? How smart you are? How much freedom your parents give you?
- Would you want to be extremely popular? Why or Why not?
-Do you think people who are popular in high school will be popular as adults? Do you think those who are not popular in high school remain unpopular as adults?
-How important is popularity to you?
-Will some people do anything to be popular? Why?

When you have finished considering all aspects of the topic, you must narrow the topic down to a simple statement that you wish to discuss. This will be your topic sentence. Make sure your topic sentence adequately includes the points you will be addressing. The rest of your paragraph must elaborate on this topic sentence and not wander off topic.
