Cindeella Adaptation

Paragraphs a Week
CINDERELLA TALE (picture book created in cooperative group)
Due ____________

For Paragraph(s) a Week this week and next, you and up to two partners will be working on creating an
adaptation of Charles Perrault's "Cinderella". Most of this will be worked on in class every morning,
and at the end of the project you will have created a picture book to share.

1.) BRAINSTORMING
Consider the following questions to help you get your thinking started.

*Who/what will be the protagonist?
* Who/what will be the antagonist?
* Remember to include at least one royal (celebrity-type) character.
* What will be the setting of your story?
* What magic will you include in your story?
* What problem will your protagonist face?
* How will the problem be solved?
* Will the numbers 3 or 7 play a role in your story?
* Remember to start your story with "Once upon a time" and end it with "...they lived happily ever after"
or some similar phrases.
* The theme or moral of your story should be that goodness triumphs over evil.

2.) WEBBING
Next create a story web of at least 15 bubbles. Include these bubbles in the web, but do NOT count them
as part of the fifteen:

protagonist, antagonist, royal or "celebrity" figure, setting, problem, solution, magic, plot

3.) FREE-WRITING/FIRST DRAFT
Refer to your story web and keep in mind the concept of story structure (hint: BME) while you and
your partners begin writing your story. Concentrate on PURPOSE and IDEAS.

4.) EDITING
Have at least two people from outside your group, read and comment on your "Cinderella" tale. Ask them
specific questions for the problems and concerns you have. Do not ask them to make corrections to spelling,
sentence structure, or grammar. Now is not the time. After your conferences have been completed, make any
necessary changes, deletions, or additions.

5.)PROOFREADING
Now... it's time to make changes in the area of PRESENTATION. Here you may ask for help form parents,
other adults, and even me.

6.) PUBLISHING
This is the fun part! How do you want your story to appear? What will the pages look like? What colors will
you choose? How will you put your book together? HAVE FUN! BE CREATIVE!
