M&Ms... MMMM Good!
You will be working on a delicious math project today. Part of what makes it sooooo delicious is that you will be working in groups, mixed groups of fifth and sixth graders. However, you will need to do some preliminary work individually.
1. Open your bag of M&Ms a. Pour out the candies onto your table area and count them. Record the number in the chart in the proper section.
2. Then count the number of each color and record it in the chart.

3. Determine the percent of each color and write it in the chart. To find the percent take the number of M&Ms of each color and divide it by the total number of M&Ms in your bag. You may use a calculator to assist you with this step. Your answer will be a decimal number. Round the decimal number to the nearest hundredth. Drop the decimal from the front of the number and add a % sign at the end. Write this answer in your chart. QUICK CHECK: Find the sum of all the percents. It should equal 100 + or - five.
4. On the back of this sheet of paper. Create a circle or pie graph that illustrates the composition of colors in your bag of M&Ms. You may want to use your compass to draw a perfect circle. Dont forget to include a title and utilize colors to help you express your information.
5. Form a group of eight students, preferably four fifth graders and four sixth graders. Compare the information regarding the number and color of your candies. Determine the mean, median, mode, and range for each color. Record that information here:

6. Finally, four people in your group are to make a bar graph
of the information, and four people are to make a pictograph.
This graph should be done on a separate sheet of paper.
