Holiday Learning Centers
Here's a tip for making easy and inexpensive holiday learning centers. Purchase double-sided holiday decorations, the kind made from light-weight cardboard. On one side, use small, circular sticky dots to form a game trail. Laminate the decoration. On the backside, place a pocket in which to store directions and game pieces. There you have it-- a learning center. I keep each gameboard rather generic so that many different games can be played on each. Some of the games that I have my students use with the boards are card games that can be found in the vocabulary lesson plans section.
Another idea for holiday learning centers is to make one gameboard on posterboard with sticky dots, leaving the background free of words or pictures. Laminate your board andplace an envelope on the back to hold directions and gamepieces. Using rubber cement, attach pictures and titles. The rubber cement holds securely onto the board but is easily removed, leaving no marks. This technique allows you to change the board on a regular basis.
