Once there was a beautiful mermaid named Seaweedia. Her parents had died. Now Seaweedia's sisters were suppose to be watching and taking care of her. Well, that's what her parents had hoped for. But Seaweedia's sisters didn't take care of her. Insted, Seaweedia is the one who takes care of them. She has to do the cooking and all the cleaning too. Not to mention doing all the dirty flipper socks that her sisters have. That's the one job that she hates the most.
One day a messenger from Treasure Kingdom came to their door. He said there was to ba a ball at the Seaweed Palace, and that it would last for two weeks. He said it would last that long so that everyone would have a chance to go. But the real reason why it had to be two weeks was that the prince could meet all the pretty mermaid girls for he was in search of a bride. He was lonely in his big palace. He was stuck with dealling with all the affairs of state. Little did her realize the surprise awaiting him and indeed, everyone else.
Seaweedi was so happy and her sister's were, too. They jumped up and down with excitement. The next day a bright light showed in Seaweedia's house. She screamed for her sisters to come to her aid. They did not answer. The light subsided and a beautiful mermaid appeared. She said her name was Sophia. Sophia told Seaweedia her sisters did not answer because they were not home.
"Well, where are they?" asked Seaweedia.
"They have already gone to the ball," said Sophia.
"They are at the ball without me?" said Seaweedia.
"I'm afraid so."
"Can you help me get to the ball?" asked Seaweedia.
"Yes," answered Sophia, "but first I must ask you a few questions."
"All right."
"What is your favorite color?"
Seaweedia answered, "Gold."
"What's your favorite hairstyle?"
"Sides up with briads," answered Seaweedia.
"What is your favorite mammal?"
Seaweedia said, "A Breat Blue Whale.
"Then I will see you the last day of the ball," replied Sophia.
"The last day?"
"Yes, it's not your time to go," explained Sophia.
"Then I will await your return," said Seaweedia.
The days seemed like years to Seaweedia. She could hear the laughter from the palace and it made her feel sad. Finally the last day of the ball arrived!
Sophia finally returned and Seaweedia was so happy to see her.
"Are you ready to go?" asked Sophia.
"Oh yes!" exclaimed Seaweedia.
In a minute Seaweedia's hair change to a beautiful arrangement of braids. Her tired and ragged fin turned to a bright golden color. A Great Blue Whale swam up and kissed her on the cheek.
"Good luck, my child!" cried Sophia. As she began to fade away, a tear fell down her cheek for she always knew that Seaweedia was indeed beautiful and loving to all.
Seaweedia got on the back of the Great Blue Whale and rode off. SHe was so happy to be going to the ball. When she arrived the other mermaids were beginning to start the last dance of the night, and indeed the last dance of the ball. Seaweedia got off her Great Blue Whale and swam to the netrance of the great castle. Hundreds of mermaids stopped and stared. As Seaweedia curtsied to the Chamberlain, she could hear others whispering, "Who is that mermaid?"
The prince was on the other side of the ballroom floor and he was so depressed. He stared at the floor as Seaweedia's sisters kept arguing who was more lovely. He stared at their great big fins and thought to himself how he could sneak out of the ball. Then he looked up and saw Seaweedia.
Seaweddia started to shake as she saw the prince starting to swim across the ballroom floor.
"Who are you?" asked theprince.
"I live down the road and to the right of your castle in the big house."
"How is it that I have never seen you before?" he asked.
"I don't get out much," replied Seaweedia.
"How can this be?" asked the prince.
"My work is just too much for me to get out," explained Seaweedia.
"No one should work that hard!" exclaimed the prince.
They retreated to the dance floor for the last dance. They instantly fell in love and soon after got married. In time they had four lovely children, and guess who had to change all the dirty diapers?
