This activity is designed to give students the opportunity to practice working with parts of speech in a fun way. It requires no preparation and can be done on the spur of the moment.

Directions:

Have your students take a sheet of notebook paper and write the names of all the class members in a column. Make two more columns, one headed NOUNS, the other VERBS. Challenge your students to think of a noun and a verb that begin with the same letter as each class member. Later, extend the activity to include adjectives, adverbs, and prepositions. For variety, have your students write a holiday word down the first column.
